Tim Mak

Journalist, War Correspondent & Founder of The Counteroffensive

Tim Mak is a journalist specialising in national security, geopolitics and conflict reporting. With more than fifteen years covering Capitol Hill, U.S. defence policy and presidential campaigns, his work sits at the intersection of politics, military strategy and global power dynamics.

He is the founder of The Counteroffensive, an independent publication reporting from the frontlines of the war in Ukraine. His on-the-ground reporting provides direct insight into modern warfare, defence innovation and the evolving nature of geopolitical conflict. Mak has reported internationally from regions including Ukraine, South Sudan, the Turkish-Syrian border, Taiwan and Israel.

Before becoming a journalist, he served as a U.S. Army medic and worked as an EMT—an experience that continues to shape his perspective on crisis, resilience and decision-making under pressure. He is also the author of Misfire, a book examining the inner workings of the National Rifle Association. His writing has appeared in leading publications such as The Atlantic, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone and Politico Magazine.

At the European Economic Forum, Tim Mak brings a frontline perspective on how geopolitical realities are shaping strategic and operational decisions for businesses and organisations today.
