How can security, climate and international stability be addressed together? Brigadier General Luca Baione combines military experience with diplomatic foresight. The Italian Air Force officer joined the service in 1984 and has since gained extensive experience in international missions and institutions – including the United Nations (MINURSO), the OSCE and NATO.
After being promoted to Colonel, he served as Military Assistant to the Italian Chief of Defence and later as Deputy Military Adviser to the President of the Council of Ministers. In 2020, he was promoted to Brigadier General. Since 2021, he has represented Italy as Permanent Representative to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in Geneva and was elected to its Executive Council in 2023.
As part of the Cruise on Lake Lucerne, General Baione will discuss Europe’s security in the age of climate change.
